Over-the-Counter (OTC) Benefits

With the VNSNY CHOICE FIDA Complete (Medicare-Medicaid Plan), one of your key benefits is coverage for many over-the-counter (OTC) health items. Each month, you are able to purchase items from VNSNY CHOICE, and their cost is covered by your plan.

What is an OTC benefit?
Your benefit covers health products and medications, including antacids, first aid supplies, allergy and cold medications, vitamins, toothpaste and toothbrushes, among many others. How much is my monthly benefit?
You can find your maximum monthly benefit amount in Chapter 4 of your Evidence of Coverage (2018 and 2019), or by calling Participant Services.

How does the OTC Card work?
Before you use your OTC card, you must activate it by calling Participant Services or by visiting www.otcnetwork.com/Member. Once activated, you can use your OTC Card for eligible purchases at participating retailers. No PIN or signature is required — it works just like a pre-paid card. Go to the checkout lanes and simply swipe the card for payment. The card is not for use for prescription co-pays. 

You can also purchase OTC products at a non-participating store and ask VNSNY CHOICE to reimburse you. For details call Participant Services or check our OTC Catalog (2018 and 2019).

You may also order OTC items online at https://shopping.drugsourceinc.com/VNSNYFIDA. Have your VNSNY CHOICE Participant ID Card ready, and follow the simple instructions provided on the site. You generally can expect to receive your order with 7 to 10 business days. You may also order OTC items by calling Participant Services.

Please note that phone and online orders may only be placed once a month. You do not need to use your full OTC balance at one time, but remember that your OTC balance does not carry over from month to month. Will the benefit amount on my OTC Card reload every month?
Yes. As long as you're an active member, on the first of every month, your OTC Card will automatically reload. You have the full month to use the benefit amount. At the end of the month, any remaining balance does not roll over to the following month.

How do I log onto the Drug Source website to order OTC items?
Go to https://shopping.drugsourceinc.com/VNSNYFIDA. In the upper right hand corner you will see "Login." Input your VNSNY ID Number. Your Password is your Date of Birth (XX/XX/19XX). Click "Go" to begin placing an OTC order.

How can I check my OTC Card balance?
You can check your balance online anytime at www.otcnetwork.com/Member. Once on the site, you will be asked to enter your 19-digit OTC Card Number. On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your VNSNY ID Number to log in and check your balance.

You can also check the balance of your OTC Card by calling Participant Services.

How do I report a lost or stolen OTC Card?
To report a lost or stolen OTC Card, call Participant Services. The Representative will have a new OTC Card mailed to your home within 7-10 business days. To activate your new card, go to www.otcnetwork.com/Member or call Participant Services.

How do I find out what products I can use my OTC Card for?

How do I find out which stores are participating retailers?
The CHOICE network includes CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens, Family Dollar Stores plus a number of local pharmacies. To find out if a store is in our network, please log in to www.otcnetwork.com/Member or call Participant Services.

VNSNY CHOICE FIDA Complete is a managed care plan that contracts with both Medicare and the New York State Department of Health (Medicaid) to provide benefits of both programs to Participants through the Fully Integrated Duals Advantage (FIDA) Demonstration.

The State of New York has created a Participant Ombudsman program called the Independent Consumer Advocacy Network (ICAN) to provide Participants free, confidential assistance on any services offered by VNSNY CHOICE FIDA Complete. The Participant Ombudsman may be reached toll-free at 1-844-614-8800 or online at icannys.org. (TTY users call 711, then follow the prompts to dial 1-844-614-8800.)
